Patchwork QuiltMore from Patchwork Quilt
For generations, the patchwork quilt has been a creative compilation of individual pieces, stitched together to make a stronger, more vibrant and more serviceable whole. Today, that traditional quilt is an apt metaphor for the ground-breaking and community-building programs that make up the contemporary St. Philip's Patchwork Quilt. Our quilt brings together men, women, teens, and children to create relationships of trust, to build self-esteem, and to enhance living and learning skills--all while encouraging the path of peace instead of violence. The Patchwork Quilt provides stimulating and nurturing after-school and summer programs for children, as well as an active teen group. It also provides group support and challenge for often-overburdened mothers, and for men who seek better lives for themselves, their families, and the community. Begun in 1997, the Quilt is a gathering place for people of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and has proven to be a news-making and noteworthy seedbed for growth and positive change. How You Can Become Part of the Patchwork Quilt![]() Volunteers are one of the binding threads of the Patchwork Quilt. Senior citizens, college students, seminarians, members of St. Philip and Transfiguration congregations and other faith communities contribute thousands of hours. Great meals are prepared. Children are encouraged to read. Birdhouses are measured, built and decorated. Get well cards are sent. Basketball is played. Praise songs are voiced. Teens have serious conversation about life issues. Men and women talk and pray with one another about the demands in their lives. Children and teens are blessed by Compassionate Companion relationships. It is true that none of this could happen without the generous and good souls giving their valuable time. If you would like to volunteer for the Patchwork Quilt, please call the parish office at 612-529-3125. |
